UFB Underground Electrical Cable

UFB Cable is an underground electrical cable used in outdoor conduit or directly underground without conduit. It comes in 2 or 3 conductors with a ground wire.

Type UF-B cable is generally used as feeder to outside post lamps, pumps, and other loads or apparatus fed froma distribution point in an existing building as specified in the National Electrical Code. UFB cable may be used underground, including direct burial.

Multiple conductor UFB cable may be used for interior branch circuit wiring in residential or agricultural buildings at conductor temperatures not to exceed 90°C (with ampacity limited to that for 60°C conductors) as specified by the National Electrical Code. UFB can be used in applications permitted for NMC in Section 334.10(B) of the National Electrical Code. Voltage rating for UF-B cable is 600 volts.

Romex wire is an indoor cable that most electrical contractors are familiar with because it's used much more often than UFB cable. UFB stands for "Underground Feeder" and the extra "B" means there is a ground wire. If you request UF cable you may get your underground cable without a ground wire because there is such an animal.

This type of underground cable does not come in different colors. The standard, and only, color if a gray rubber jacket because it's difficult to color a rubber jacket and there's very little demand. Electrical wire is made very simple for standard electrical contractors doing installations in homes and buildings. Indoor cables are Romex and outdoor cables or underground cables are UFB. THHN wire is another type of wire used quite a bit in the industry. THHN / THWN wire is used in all Romex cables and UFB cables with different protective jackets that allow it to be used in different applications.

THHN wire has a PVC insulation with a nylon coating to protect against weather, gas and solvents. It can be used outdoors or in conduit but it cannot be direct buried without the use on conduit.

Our underground cables listed in awg sizes above are very useful and not that expensive. UFB cable can be used in any way you need outdoors because weather and moisture have no change on penetrating the UFB jacket.
